HYONG 1: CHON-JI

19 MOVEMENTS

Sybolism: Heaven and Earth

CHON-ji Hyong trains our sense of direction. Every combination of movement is carried out in one of the four cardinal directions. CHON-Ji encourages our body and mind to be aware of our complete environment and to spatially orientate ourselves better in case of self-defense.

HYONG 2: TAN-GUN

21 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: Korea´s Founder in 2334 B.C

TAN-GUN Hyong trains coordination through the alternation between open and closed hands. Likewise, the techniques of co- and counter-movements are thoroughly trained.

HYONG 3: TO-SAN

24 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: Patriot who stood up for education and Korea´s independence at the begining of the 20th century

In TO-SAN Hyong, accuracy in foot positions is trained. For the first time, the student encounters movement in the diagonal directions.

HYONG 4: WON-HYO

28 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: Monk who brought Buddhism to Korea in 686 A.D

WON-HYO Hyong schools head movement. One learns to first move the eyes and head in the direction one wants to move.

HYONG 5: YUL-KOK

38 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: Scholar from the 16th century with the nickname "Confucius of Korea"

YUL-KOK Hyong is a so-called "power Hyong". Here one can express one´s entire energy, power and dynamism.

HYONG 6: CHUNG-GUN

32 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: Korean freedom fighter during the Japanese occupation at the beginning of the 20th century

CHUNG-GUN Hyong is a particularly technical Hyong. Many new facets regarding foot positioning, joint positions and an especially large number of new techniques are required. This form should rather be executed slowly, but, accordingly, very accurately.

HYONG 7: TOI-GYE

37 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: Scholar who strongly influenced "Neo-Confucianism" in Korea in the 16th century

TOI-GYE Hyong lays great value on technique. Here one finds a great number of new techniqes, foot positions etc.

HYONG 8: HWA-RANG

29 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: Youth organization with similar values to those of the Japanese Samurai and who united the 3 kingdoms in the 7th century

HWA-RANG Hyong trains flow of movement and the correct use of the hips. This form can be executed fast and dynamically.

HYONG 9: CHUNG-MU

30 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: Admiral and inventor of the first armoured battleship in the 16th century

CHUNG-MU Hyong is, for the viewer, a very varied form with many flowing movements and several different kicks. It is a favorite at shows and performances.

HYONG 10: KWANG-GYE

39 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: 17th King of the Koguryo-Dynasty who expanded the Korean colonies as far as Manchuria

KWANG-GYE Hyong is again very technical, containing new step patterns, several new techniques and sequences. It requires a very precise execution.

HYONG 11: PO-EUN

36 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: Poet and physicist from the 14th century, famous for his monarchical loyalty

PO-EUN Hyong is executed along one line and trains hand techniques as well as a powerful stance.

HYONG 12: KAE-BAEK

44 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: General in the 7th century known for his strength and discipline

KAE-BAEK Hyong is a very flowing, technical Hyong with many kicks. It is also performed a lot at shows.

HYONG 13: YU-SIN

68 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: General in the 7th century known for his strength and discipline

YU-SIN Hyong trains us in many new techniques and is very flowing. It also improves our 45° orientation. With its 68 movements, it is the second longest form.

HYONG 14: CHUNG-JANG

52 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: Young general from the 15th century who was falsely accused and executed

CHUNG-JANG Hyong is the first Master form (i.e. it is learned first at Black Belt level) and includes many new techniques and interesting combinations.

HYONG 15: UL-JI

42 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: General who was victorious against China in the 6th century

UL-JI Hyong is a Hyong with new and sophisticated techniqes.

HYONG 16: SAM-IL

33 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism:
Date of the start of the Korean Independence Movement against Japan: March 1st 1919

SAM-IL Hyong can be executed in a very fast and flowing manner. I call it a form of speed.

HYONG 17: KO-DANG

39 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: Patriots and freedom fighters who stood up for independence and the education of the Korean public

KO-DANG Hyong has a special position as in ITF (International Taekwondo Federation), it has been replaced and is only practiced in Tradional Taekwondo. It offers new techniques, complex step patterns and exercises in balance.

HYONG 18: CHOI-YONG

45 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism:General frpm the 14th century who was highly esteemed because of his humility and loyalty

In CHOI-YONG Hyong there are a lot of 180 degree changes. Besides kick combinations and new step patterns, it trains the fine coordination of the student. It can also be executed fast.

HYONG 19: SE-JONG

24 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: Important King from the 15th century, meteorologist and creator of the Korean alphabet with 24 letters

In SE-JONG Hyong there is an emphasis on the basic techniques. Powerful step by step execution is a prerequisite for a perfect performance.

HYONG 20: EUI-AM

45 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: Leader of the independence movement of March 1st 1919

EUI-AM Hyong is a fast-paced Hyong with many new movements carried out in contrary motion, thus giving a thorough training in coordination.

HYONG 21: JUCHE

45 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: Everyone is master of their world and the creator of their own destiny. This idea was born on Mount Baekdu, which has since then been considered a symbol of the Korean spirit

JUCHE Hyong is currently only practiced in the Young-Ung Taekwondo - SYSTEM. It offers a variety of complex movements, interesting changes of direction and a high level of balance.

HYONG 22: MOON-MOO

61 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: 13th King of the Silla-Dinasty, whose mission it was to defend Korea against Japan until all eternity

MOON-MOO Hyong requires a high level of balance, body control, coordination and kicks. Brand new techniques are also presented. This Hyong offers the eager Master student much joy.

HYONG 23: YON-GE

49 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: General, who banished the Chinese from Korea in the 7th century

New techniques are again required in YON-GE Hyong. The hyong comprises various composite movement combinations with concise, short stops.

HYONG 24: SO-SAN

72 MOVEMENTS

Symbolism: Monk who fought against Japan with an army of monks in the 16th century

SO-SAN Hyong is a form that places emphasis on technical precision as well as particular footwork. It requires a high level of balance and much more. With its 72 movements, it is the longest of all the forms.

Symbolism: Unification of a separated Korea

TONG-IL Hyong is, like all the higher forms, unique in its nuanced sequences. It closes the circle from the standardized techniques learned at the beginning, to the highly professional, structured and demanding sequences of the Master and Grand Master.
